Kutani-yaki Nesting Bowls: Opulent Dragon Motifs
This is a magnificent set of three graduated Kutani-yaki (Kutani ware) nesting bowls. Each piece is an historical artifact, showcasing the supreme decorative artistry of the Meiji or Taisho era.
Characterized by the distinctive Kutani technique, the bowls feature elaborate scalloped rims and are lavishly decorated with iron-red enamel (bengara) and fine gold accents. The centerpiece of each bowl is a dynamic, powerful dragon (ryu), a traditional symbol of power, fortune, and imperial authority, hand-painted with meticulous detail.
The overall design, with its detailed paneling and rich color palette, epitomizes the luxurious Kinrande (gold brocade) style of Kutani ware. This set is not only functional for serving special dishes but stands as a spectacular decorative ensemble, embodying the technical mastery and Japanese porcelain tradition.
